Lafayette Park was set aside from the St. Louis Common in 1836 and dedicated in 1851 as one of the first public parks in the city. It is considered by many historians to be the oldest urban park west of the Mississippi River. The 30 acre park is surrounded by original fencing and features walking paths, a beautifully restored Park House built in 1867. Historic statues, fountains, restored iron bridges and modern sculptures make Lafayette Park one of the most popular wedding photo venues in St. Louis.
Revolutionary War canons, originally mounted on the 28-gun British frigate Actaen, now function as a climbing course for kids (and grownups) of all ages. These canons were raised from their underwater resting place in Charleston harbor and donated to the park by St. Louis veterans in 1897.
Whether you visit to watch the St. Louis Perfectos playing 1860's rules baseball, enjoy an evening concert in the park or just soak in the idyllic surroundings, please don't miss the serene beauty of this magnificent space.
